5 Casual But Lovely Places To Stay Near Fakenham

Looking for something a little more casual?

There are plenty of fancy five-star hotels in the area surrounding Fakenham that offer world-class service in a well-to-do environment, but what if you’re looking for something a bit more relaxed?

Not everyone can relax in what can often be a starchy, five-star hotel experience, in fact these hotels can quite often inspire the opposite effect! Over-attentive staff and a ‘look don’t touch’ policy can often make these hotels feel more like staying in a very clean museum, rather than staying in a relaxed place and when you’re paying so much money wouldn’t you want to be able to properly put your feet up?

We’ve had a hunt in and around the Fakenham area to ferret out some places to stay that don’t sacrifice homeliness for comfort, places that you can truly feel at home in whilst also getting spoilt rotten:

Sculthorpe Mill

This historic mill’s roots can be traced all the way back to the Domesday book in 1086, although the current building was finished in 1757. The mill supplied locals and farmers with corn until 1947 when it was closed. It wasn’t until 1965 that the Mill was reopened as the Sculthorpe Mill Country Club, although the name has changed since then the Mill remains at the heart of the local community. Room reservations and table bookings can be made by calling them directly on 01328 856161.

The Ffolkes

The Fakenham area has no shortage of historic buildings and The Ffolkes is the perfect example of how one of these buildings can be utilised as an attractive, yet relaxing place to stay. The Ffolkes was built over 300 years ago and was recently renovated by the current owners into a super-chic but relaxed restaurant wit rooms. 18 meticulously decorated rooms are on offer here, not to mention the lovingly restored dining area, lounge and bar.

Bang in Wells

You’ll find this nifty cafe and bar right in the centre of Wells-next-Sea, hence its name! Just a short drive away from the centre of Fakenham, Wells-next-Sea is a picturesque seaside town on the north coast of Norfolk. This colourful, funky enterprise is set with one of the town’s oldest buildings and is home to a number of fun music events throughout the year. The cafe’s laid-back vibe is mirrored in the hotel experience upstairs.

Linden Bed & Breakfast

This tastefully decorated Bed & Breakfast offers true five-star luxury in the perfectly peaceful environs of Hillington, just a 20 minute drive from Fakenham. This home is kept to the highest of standards and is set within its own gardens so you’ll be able to truly ‘escape from it all’ once you get there. There are plenty of lovely rural walks on your doorstep at the Linden B&B, but if the rain comes down then you can always enrol yourselves in the cooking lessons that take place there!

Erika’s Bed and Breakfast

Finally, if you’re dead set on staying in Fakenham and would rather stay there, Erika’s Bed and Breakfast is the place for you. Six en-suite rooms are available in this cosy B&B and you’re just a stone’s throw away from some of the fantastic pubs and other places to eat in the town centre. A full English breakfast is on offer for every guests, so there’ll be no need to go elsewhere to find a fry up.
